Top 5 Non-Traditional Muscle-Building, Rapid Fat Reduction Workouts…No Sissies Permitted!

Sunday 30 December 2007 @ 9:01 pm

By: greywolf

This is what stands out about the people who leap on and off the “fitness bandwagon” a few times every year lacking ever making any actual progress from the people that actually adopt a dedicated fitness lifestyle and finally achieve the body they have always sought. Make it appealing, make it fun, and make your fitness a priority, and you’ll have the body that you desirer.

What I have observed over the years is that many people will workout consistently for a few months and then will both get bored with the same old weight training and cardio workouts, or will get discouraged because their growth comes to a grinding halt after a while. In my view, I don’t think your workouts ever should get boring or stale. You just need to have an open mind to the vast world of numerous workout styles and techniques that are out there.

Sincerely, there are so many different and fun workout styles out there, that there should be no motive for getting bored with your training and give up on that lean ripped body that you’ve been looking for. Also, adding in assorted workout styles develops strong joints by reducing repetitive motion overload and change up your training stressors from time to time.

Now before we begin with some of the preferred non-traditional workout styles, I will mention that one of the best ways to achieve a lean, muscular and healthy body is through a consistent weight training schedule with free weights. You can choose to integrate some of these alternative workout techniques with your weight training routines on the same day, as alternative workouts on different days of the week, or even as different workout cycles where you try some of these techniques for several weeks at a time before cycling back to a traditional weight training program. Try some of these training methods out and you’ll be on your way to never being bored again with your workouts…and your body will thank you with muscles popping out that you never knew existed!

Alright, here are some of the preferred non-traditional workout techniques:

1. Staircase Workouts - This is great because stairs are everywhere. You can go to a football field and do what we call stadium stairs, any building that has stairs like a hotel (most people take the elevator, so you will not even have many people looking at you while you’re working out), or even the stairs in your own home. For an complete fulled body workouts, try mixing stairs sprints with an upper body workout like pushups or pull-ups.

If done with a high enough intensity, stairs workouts help to generate changes throughout your whole body due to the muscle development and fat burning hormonal result and metabolism intensety that you get through developing the main muscle groups in your entire body.

2. Wind Sprints and Incline Sprints - Find any open area in a park or college or high school field and try 50, 75, and 100-yard all-out wind sprints. After each sprint, get a breather long enough to catch your breath before the next one (usually 1-2 minutes). Try workouts from 6 to 20 wind sprints for a great workouts. Also, if you have a incline nearby, incline sprints are also great workouts. Sprint up the incline as quickly as you can and walk down for your rest interval. Repeat until you’re gassed (a 20-30 minute incline workout is sufficient).

These sprint workouts are so amazingly effective at improving your entire body for the same reason as stairs workouts…by intensely working the main muscle groups in your entire body, you can stimulate your metabolism while simultaneously increasing your fat burning and muscle developing hormones. Just look at any world class 100-meter sprinters and observe how lean & ripped those guys are.

Now contrast that to the scrawny weakling forms of many marathoners, and you’ll see that sprinting is where the action is at for a well, ripped, strong body! Now I don’t want to distress all of you distance runners out there. Hey, if distance running is something you like, then go for it. But don’t say you’re doing it for the health benefits, because I might just have to disagree. You can read the whole story on why I believe adaptable intensity working out is far superior to steady endurance training

3. Kettlebell Workout - You’ve doubtless heard the praise kettlebell training many times before, but I will have to reiterate that it has been one of the best workout methods that I’ve ever tried and has taken my physical capabilities to a entire new level. Kettlebells are an alternative kind of free-weight training instead of barbells and dumbbells. Their unique construction and weight distribution (chiefly a cannonball with a handle) allocates for a entire different realm of exercises that’s offered comparedd to dumbbells and barbells.

Kettlebells have been the standard use for training hard-core athletes, armed force units, martial arts competitors, and other tough individuals, but there is no reason that everybody looking to get stronger, bigger, or more cut can’t learn the exercises and benefit from them. It’s been a little over a year now because I’ve incorporated kettlebell training into my routines, and I’ll admit that I’m hooked for life! At between $100-$150 per kettlebell, they are definitely not cheap, but they are well worth the money. Just one or two kettlebells and you’ve precisely got yourself an entire home gym that you can use for the rest of your life…worth every cent in my book! Check out some more information on body-hardening kettlebells .

4. Bodyweight Workouts - Try doing one or two workouts a week at home with just bodyweight based exercises. These can be great because you can get a high intensity workout done in only 15-30 minutes without having to go to the gym on days that you might not have time for a drive to the gym. Try alternating bodyweight squats, pushups variants, lunges, and floor abs exercises continuously for 15-30 minutes.

Try to take very little break periods or none at all to genuinely amp up the intensity because this will be a concise workout. If you’re more ahead of everyone else, you can even incorporate more challenging exercises like handstand pushups, one-arm pushups, and one-legged squats into your bodyweight workout schedule.

5. Sandbag Training - This form of working out is a good variant to mix in with your strength training. It works your body with an unstable object, which makes muscles that might customaryly be neglected get in on the action to complete the movements. I’ve been adding some sandbag training into my routine for over a year now, and I’ve found it is a very intense style of working out that works your muscles in a different way and gets you sweating and your body fat like crazy.

You can make your own sandbags to workout with by stuffing various sized duffle bags with sand, or you can use those construction type sandbags that come in numerous shapes. Sandbag exercises can be done as squats, cleans, presses, lunges, shouldering, throws or heaves, hauling up hills, etc. I’ve actually found an entire book devoted to sandbag training , which gave me some genuinely good ideas for sandbag based workouts.

Well, I’m optimistic that you have gained some motivation to add these training methods that we have mention to your workout routine and make them fun again.

Health, Exercise That Will Help You Quit Smoking

Sunday 30 December 2007 @ 8:58 pm

By: James Murray

When you decide to stop smoking, you will bring on other changes in your life as well. Smoking is a very addictive habit, meaning that it is very hard to quit. There are a lot of changes that take place, although exercise can be a big help to you when you decide to quit.

Try to set a new routine, such as working out or going to the gym. If that is not possible, you should try waking up earlier and going for a short walk. If you can turn that walk into a run or a jog, it is going to be very stimulating and the best way that you can start your day.

Keep in mind that exercise does not really mean pumping metal. If you do not have the time to stop by the gym every day, then it is not really that big of a problem, as you can always choose to workout at home.

Whether you choose to workout at home or at a gym, you should always remember that regularity is the key. It is not getting started that is the difficult part, it is sticking to a regular exercise program that is difficult and proves to be stumbling block for most people.

Some people have a great start. They will buy track suits, gym wear, running shoes, and a lot of other gear, so their first day at the gym is almost like a celebration. As the days go by, they find it very difficult to meet the demands and their routine will slow down a lot and finally come to a complete exercise burnout.

One mistake that several people make is choosing the evenings to exercise. If evenings fit your lifestyle, then it is fine. For most people however, the evening hours are when they are completely pooped. By the evening most of us are drained, and simply too tired for exercise. Therefore, it is always best to set some time aside for exercise in the morning.

In the morning, wake up a half an hour or so earlier, put on your shoes, and hit the road. Most roads are less crowded in the morning and less polluted as well, making it a wonderful and relaxing way to start the day.

You should also steer clear from the coffee and try tea instead. If you are moving around in the house, try playing music. You can also redecorate your room by adding a few pictures around. When you redecorate, you should get rid of everything that reminds you of smoking.

Plan your day where you will have something fun to do at the end of the day. It does not need to be something that involves money, as you do not want to end up bankrupt. Spending time with family, playing games, or going for a walk with your family are all good activities.

Watching television does not really fit into the list. The reason is because television is not something that demands a lot of attention. You can easily do something else while you are watching television.

You should also make a list of things that build up your stress and try to avoid them. If it is not possible, you should try to find out some some ways to bust stress and use them. Whatever you do, you should not use stress as an excuse to start smoking.

There are many other methods that you can use to beat stress. You can try breathing exercises, mediation, or even music. Another great way to beat stress is using the distressing ball. If you do not have one or access to one, you can always wiggle your fingers and toes. This too is a great and natural method to beat stress.

Is Sushi Really Japan’s Secret, To Healthy Living And Long Life?

Sunday 30 December 2007 @ 8:52 pm

By: Graham Foster..

It is claimed by many nutritionists that Sushi is one of the main reasons why Japanese people have the lowest incidence of obesity and heart disease. Now finally more and more are taking up Sushi as an alternative to junk foods.

Sushi, that sumptuous combination of rice and raw fish, wrapped in fish skin is quickly approaching fast food status overseas, far, far away from the country that invented it. It’s sparing partner, the wasabe, the green stuff that is atrocious to the nose is a delicacy that non-Japanese people are still getting used to-but it’s only a matter of time.

Wasabe or Wasabi paste as many know it has more than just taste to offer the dinner. It might suprise you to learn that this hot and firery paste has almost magical powers with the ability to kill bacteria in fish … even if the fish may not be as fresh as it might be.

Eating sushi can be quite expensive, owing to the fact that it is labor intensive to make. The first big challenge is getting really fresh fish, definitely not just the ones that sell in the typical wet market. You have to find the fish market that sells sushi-grade fish. In some cases, they will help do the deboning for you, but for a fee, of course.

Otherwise, you will have to do the knife-processing yourself, which can take hours especially if you are dealing with a big fish. This step also requires that you use a very sharp knife. There are many good sushi books in the bookstores which can illustrate the correct way of cutting and deboning the fish.

Get this, the trick is not in the fish, it’s in the art of cutting it. Although fresh fish is absolutely required to start with, there is only way to do it the sushi way. Experiment with doing it your way and see what happens to the fish. The fish slices will look soggy and grainy–it seems the fish has been abused.

There are no shortcuts on the rice either, It must be authentic Japanese sushi rice .. Uncle Bens simply won’t cut it. Another point to remember don’t confuse sushi with another japanese favorite sashimi . The main difference being the serving of rice. If you order sashimi and want rice make sure you order a bowl as it is not part of the dish.

Types of sushi are many, but with out exception all are served with rice. Most commonly know is the sushi roll or maki which is made using nori (seaweed) and served in slices of six parts. In addition there is nigiri or hand made sushi usually prepared in pairs. In addition to these more common types there is also pressed sushi (squares) or oshi, and bean curd sushi rolls or inarizushi.

Here are many more sushi styles. Saikuzushi, or festival sushi is an art form. Rice is tinted different colors, sectioned off and rolled. When it is sliced, complex images are created. Chirashizushi, or scattered sushi, is rice spread in a box or bowl with nine kinds of fish and vegetables scattered on top or mixed in with the rice. Chakinzushi is sushi rice in a thin omelet wrapper shaped and tied like a lady’s drawstring purse. Sometimes a single pea or small shrimp decorates the ruffled part of the wrapper.

Makezushi consist of sushi rice combined with vegetables, and seafood that has been molded into special bowls of square tins and covered with pieces of sliced omelet, shrimp and vegetables. Another variation on this theme is Fukusazushi where where the molded rice is wrapped in a sheet of omelet and then turned over to hide the joins and garnished with a ribbon of seaweed (nori) and ginger.

Lastly we have Temarizushi which are rice balls wrapped in thinly sliced marinated fish. Itadakimasu! (enjoy your meal)
